I pronounced my shahadah less than a year ago- after years of reflecting about that step and learning about the religion. I am the only Muslim in my family- so I do not have a wali. I have not yet told my relatives about my conversion- aware that once I reveal it I will probably be ostracized. I was in a serious relationship with a non-Muslim man when I converted to Islam. After 6 years together- the fact that I reverted led to our break-up. Despite this- due to economic and personal reasons- we both still have to share the place we started renting whilst we were still a couple. My faith is an essential part of who I am- my niqab has also become a fundamental element of my identity. I trust in the Qadr of Allāh Subhanahu wa Ta-ala and firmly believe that everything that has happened- both before and after I embraced Islam as my religion- is by His will.
